A female individual previously residing at a female recovery facility in the state of California reportedly took a stolen van and engaged in a prolonged law enforcement pursuit ending with her crossing the border into the nation of Mexico on the start of the week.

Vehicle Theft Discovered from Recovery Residence

As stated in a police statement, a another female, the owner of the vehicle, 45, notified authorities that her gray minivan from 2004 was stolen, along with her car key. The owner, who operates two female recovery residences, identified the alleged thief as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, located approximately 60 minutes north-west of LA.

“The keys were taken out of my manager’s handbag. I happened to pull up just as it was occurring,” she said, adding that the vehicle is designated for the facility’s daily operations.

Dramatic Chase Develops Across Several Regions

Officials located the stolen vehicle about 19 kilometers north in Simi Valley, where they attempted to pull the vehicle over, but Wilson refused to stop and sped away. She reached speeds of about 90mph on the State Route 118 until the chase proceeded into Los Angeles county. At that juncture, local sheriff’s deputies transferred the operation to the CHP once Wilson merged onto the Interstate 405 traveling southbound.

“This one is very unique in the context of the road situation enabling drivers to continue to remain on the freeway and extend this chase,” commented a public information officer from the local law enforcement agency.

The suspect allegedly dodged all the spike strips tossed on the roadway by authorities, as seen in aerial videos.

International Getaway and Aftermath

The pursuit finally arrived at the international border by early afternoon, prompting the highway patrol to end its pursuit due to jurisdictional constraints.

Walters stated on Tuesday that the vehicle was situated in Tijuana, Mexico and that she was working with the authorities to retrieve it.

“Ultimately, I’m not concerned with the car,” she said. “I’m relieved aware she wasn’t hurt. The minivan is easily substituted.”

Owner’s Perspective

Walters, who has run Diana’s House Sober Living since October 2024, acknowledges that the path to recovery from addiction and emotional distress is not always linear.

“This represents a mental health and addiction crisis,” Walters emphasized. “We need additional assistance. We need greater resources for those that are facing challenges.”

“The recovery process isn’t always pretty,” Walters concluded.
