Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on October 24.
